Italian public broadcaster RAI has signed an agreement with Sony, the first of its type in Italy, for the deployment of Web content within the Bravia Internet Video platform.
This will open the doors for the creation of the first Italian “Catch-up TV”, allowing viewers to view a selection of programmes available on RAI’s website (www.rai.tv). The technology will be made available to owners of a Sony Bravia TV or Blu-ray Home Theater system with Bravia Internet Video.
From February, viewers will be able to watch, free of charge, RAI TV programmes from the comfort of their living room, without a PC, on large screens and in high definition. RAI claims that, with this initiative, it wants to seize the opportunity presented by new trends in the framework of Over the Top TV, which allow the use of Internet content via a broadband connection, while bypassing the traditional providers of IPTV services.
