Beem, an online video service, announced the public launch of its Web site, Beem.TV in Australia. Users can now record their choice of television programming to watch back at a more convenient time.
On Beem.TV, consumers can enjoy selecting from TV Shows and Movies from Australia’s Digital Free To Air Television channels, which can be recorded and stored securely in personal cloud based storage, then accessed anywhere from the Internet.
Beem capitalises on the increasing trend of time shifting of television broadcasts, which is not only convenient in an increasingly fast paced world, but is also a right enshrined in Australian legislation.
“Today, Beem officially launches its mission to help people watch what they want, when they want, where and how they want it. We’re intuitively delivering TV to the Web.” said Jimmy Storrier, co-founder of Beem. “Beem represents part of a new world where consumers choose a time and place that’s convenient to them for their entertainment viewing.”
“Beem not only makes television more convenient, it allows you to discover great content via recommendations from your friends” said David Morrison, co-founder of Beem. “We’ve built Beem from the ground up to be part of a more social entertainment experience. Connecting the Social Graph to Television is a powerful combination: a recommendation from a friend is worth more than a listing in a TV guide, or a promo spot.”
Beem.TV streams videos to a desktop or laptop web browser in high-quality and offers the ability to watch videos in full screen. The service will soon be available on other platforms including mobile devices, tablets, set top boxes and Internet connected television sets.
“In November, I don’t think we had any idea just how popular Beem would be with our limited trial group. Over 65% of people using the service do so every week. It’s clear that consumers are in control of their entertainment experience today, and a service like Beem helps them re-engage with television in ways they wouldn’t have before.”
