Motorola Mobility has struck a deal with BelAir Networks to deliver its comprehensive WiFi portfolio to cable operators worldwide. This new relationship combines Motorola’s portfolio of cable video and broadband solutions and customer support organisation with BelAir’s WiFi solutions for service providers, and supports cable operators’ needs to promote competitive differentiation, improve customer retention and recapture incremental revenue and profits associated with reduced customer churn.

Motorola will instantly gain access to BelAir Networks’ proven and widely-deployed portfolio of WiFi access points, picocellular technology and advanced WiFi network provisioning and management solutions.

Motorola points out that with the proliferation of WiFi enabled smartphone and tablet devices, cable operators using Motorola Cable WiFi solutions can offer their subscribers on-the-go broadband services that are a simple extension of their in-home broadband services and experience.

Additionally, picocellular technology provides operators access to new revenue streams as the explosion in mobile broadband traffic leaves commercial wireless service providers looking for cost effective means to increase 3G and 4G mobile network capacity.

“Cable Wi-Fi is a natural extension of our leading cable video and broadband portfolio that complements our business and the solutions we offer to cable operators worldwide today,” said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, network infrastructure, Motorola Mobility.
