Sony Pictures and Warner Bros have signed on as content suppliers for Silicon Valley startup Flickme.com, a socially-focused movie streaming service that launched in the US this week.
Flickme is set up in a similar fashion to other content streaming services that rent or sell films with the addition of deep integration with social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
With Flickme, users can log into their social media accounts, connect with friends and follow other people who enjoy the same types of movies. Flickme also offers a shareable discount platform, which lets users who buy or rent an eligible film share their recommendation with 10 friends via Facebook or Twitter. Those who receive the recommendation can then rent the film for just $1.49, rather than pay $3.99 for new releases and $2.99 for older films.
