Verizon’s FiOS hit by strikes, weather

September 14, 2011

By Chris Forrester

Verizon says a recent two-week strike by many of its 45,000 unionised workforce resulted in at least 100,000 lost FiOS Internet TV installs taking place. The problems were not helped by the two huge storms that affected many of its subscribers.

While many former Verizon staff and managers stepped in to keep essential services going, in many cases water-soaked installations had first to dry out before repairs could be started.

FiOS says that normal installation routines will start again in about 2 weeks once the current problems are cured. However, some would-be FiOS users still have install dates some 4 months away although former striking staff are working 12-hour days in order to catch up.
