Spain PPV football launches online

October 10, 2011

From David Del Valle in Madrid

Mediapro, owner of pay DTT channel Gol TV, has launched a pay-per-view football TV channel online allowing viewers to watch up to 115 football matches a month through any Internet-connected device.

From €1 to €14.99 viewers will be able to have access to the Spanish Football League, King’s Cup, Champions League and other International Championships. Those with no subscription to pay DTT channel Gol TV will have a fee of €14.99 a month, with Gol TV subscribers only paying an extra of €4.99 a month to have access to the Internet service. There are daily subscriptions at a fee of €7.99 and even pay-per-view matches at €1 per match.

The launch of this ppv Internet TV channel is Mediapro’s answer to its direct competitor Prisa TV-owned pay service Canal Plus Liga and also an attempt to boost subscriptions at a time when its pay DTT channel Gol TV lost almost 20,000 clients in the second quarter, from 365,568 at the end of March to 348,506 subscribers at the end of June.
