November 10, 2011

Latin America’s seven main markets have absorbed almost 21 million set-top boxes as it adopts digital pay-TV. Latest numbers from Dataxis Online Intelligence says 20.57 million units have been supplied or bought by viewers, and this number to grow to 26.4 million by 2016.

Of the above installed total, 7.4 million serve cabled homes, 12.3 million supply DTH signals and about 820,000 serve IPTV homes. Dataxis concentrates on the seven key markets of Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.

Brazil is expected to have 4.09 million boxes by the end of this year, and Mexico 4.49 million. Both nations are still enjoying “strong DTH demand” says Dataxis.
