Intel mulls entering TV race

March 13, 2012

Chip maker Intel is said to be talking to US media companies about an Internet-based TV service powered by its chips. Intel would sell STBs or gateways containing its chips and access to broadcaster services and movies, reports the WSJ.

It would represent a new departure into content delivery for the group. The exploration is lead by Erik Huggers, head of Intel’s media group and formerly with BBC iPlayer. Intel’s Atom chips made little impact powering early Google TVs and now it will concentrate on media processors for STBs and gateways.
