TiVo calls in the lawyers again
March 27, 2012
Last week, peace broke out for the briefest of moments in the never-ending patent battles over TiVo’s IP. Last week, it was with Microsoft where TiVo and Microsoft “settled their differences” although no further details were released.
Now, however, a fresh batch of writs has been issued against media heavyweights Motorola Mobility and Time Warner Cable, according to a statement in an Security & Exchange Commission filing March 26th.
The writ argues that the two respondents have infringed three of TiVo’s patents, including its core ‘multimedia time warp’ system.
Observers suggest that the writs might well be valued as potentially worth in the $200 million – $300 million range for each victory – should TiVo continue its winning streak.
