Elemental Stream pushes multiscreen video processing into the network

May 21, 2012

Elemental Technologies, a supplier of video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, has announced Elemental Stream, a video processing system designed to segment,  package and secure live and on-demand content for multiscreen delivery. Launched today at The Cable Show 2012, Elemental Stream can be positioned at the core encoding location or as an integral part of the content delivery infrastructure, making it well-suited for Pay-TV operators, Content Delivery Networks (CDN), broadcasters and content owners.

Developed as a logical extension to Elemental’s award-winning video processing technology, Elemental Stream reduces bandwidth requirements for customers looking to deliver multi-bit rate video across a CDN and manage content preparation at the edge of the network without the need for re-encoding. It provides a solution to produce content in a single encoded video format and apply specific DRM and adaptive bitrate formats at the time of distribution.

“With Elemental Stream, we are responding to the industry’s need for a video processing system that lowers costs for IP video delivery by customizing content separately from the core encoding process,” said Keith Wymbs, VP marketing at Elemental Technologies. “With this product our customers can experience the advantages of close integration with Elemental Live and Server as well as our unified management system Elemental Conductor.”

“The proliferation of devices and technologies used for multiscreen video delivery and consumption creates operational challenges for OTT and TV Everywhere deployments,” said Greg Ireland, consumer video analyst at IDC. “With Elemental Stream, Elemental is building on its recent success in the video processing industry to offer a more comprehensive solution in a rapidly expanding market in which service providers and programmers need technologies to efficiently manage and deliver an increasing volume of multiscreen content.”

Elemental Stream supports closed captioning and subtitle conversion and allows international broadcasters and operators to associate a single video with multiple audio tracks. SCTE-35 advertising triggers can address the regional advertising needs to enable further monetization of the content. Elemental Stream packages video to support existing and future adaptive bitrate protocols including Apple HLS, Adobe Dynamic Streaming, Microsoft Smooth Streaming and MPEG-DASH and can apply content protection such as Microsoft PlayReady, Verimatrix VCAS and Motorola SecureMedia. Elemental Stream will be generally available in Q3’12.

Elemental will demonstrate Elemental Stream as part of an end-to-end solution for multiscreen video delivery at The Cable Show in Booth 2253. Also featured in the booth will be video service technology from partners Adobe, Akamai, SRS Labs and Verimatrix.
