May 22, 2012

Cisco is collaborating with Chinese cable operator, Oriental Cable Network (OCN), to develop next-generation video experiences for consumers based on Cisco Videoscape, an open platform that utilises the cloud, the network, and client devices to deliver new video experiences over the Internet.  OCN, one of the China’s largest cable operators, will deploy Videoscape to enable new multi-screen video services for PCs, tablets, smart phones and other mobile devices for its customer base throughout Shanghai, China.

OCN will deploy the Videoscape platform, which provides service providers with an end-to-end system to implement TV Everywhere-like services.  The Videoscape Quickstart solution, including Videoscape Media Suite, Content Delivery System IS (CDS-IS), Cisco Media Processor (CMP) and Cisco Digital Content Manager (DCM), will enable OCN to create new consumer experiences by giving subscribers the ability to access content from multiple devices, anywhere.  Further, The Videoscape platform also enables OCN to establish the foundation needed for future capabilities, such as linear delivery to managed and unmanaged devices, Cloud DVR, VoD and companion experiences.

“With the immense popularity of mobile devices in Shanghai, it was imperative that we partner with a technology leader capable of enabling our network to progressively scale our services,” said LIU Jiuping, senior vice president of OCN.  “We are very pleased to be working closely with Cisco to deliver a new generation of exciting multi-screen video services for our customers
