Brazilian pay-TV continues to expand at a spectacular rate. April saw a net growth in subs of 284,000 taking the total to some 13.95 million subscribing homes. America Movil (Net/Embratel) is the market leader with 54.2 per cent for its MSO Net and DTH Claro TV operations, numbering 7.57 million subs.

The April growth was almost all down to DTH, with 235,000 net subs added (up 3 per cent), while cable grew just 58,000 (up 1 per cent). The now distinctly old-fashioned MMDS players again lost subscribers lost 8000 homes (about 4 per cent).

Sky Brazil (DirecTV) has 4.2 million homes, while the nation’s 3rd operator Telefonica/Abril has 685,000.
