RGB Networks debuts just-in-time packaging for European operators at ANGA Cable 2012

June 11, 2012

ANGA Cable 2012 in Cologne, Germany (stand V18) will mark the European debut of RGB Networks’ newly launched “just-in-time” packaging (JITP) capabilities. Delivered through its award-winning TransAct Packager, RGB’s flexible adaptive streaming product, RGB will showcase how this latest innovation helps operators save costly storage and future-proof their on-demand multiscreen deployments.

With end-users expecting premium video access on any device, anytime and anywhere, delivered free of any delay or jitter, operators are faced with a new set of challenges in a marketplace with a growing number of competitors. Those operators that do not embrace and deploy these services will quickly get left behind and become delivery networks for others that do. However, many operators are struggling to navigate the infrastructure, storage and cost challenges of incorporating IP-delivered video into their architectures.

At ANGA Cable, RGB will demonstrate how its new JITP technology enables operators to deliver adaptive bitrate video-on-demand (VOD), network digital video recorder (nDVR) and TV Everywhere services without pre-packaging all their video assets in each of the adaptive streaming protocols. This reduces the need for costly storage and network bandwidth, and allows them to more quickly and cost-effectively expand their TV Everywhere libraries and transition to new adaptive streaming formats, such as MPEG DASH.

RGB will also highlight an adaptive streaming environment for hyper-targeted advertising. RGB’s recent partnership with BlackArrow delivers the industry’s first complete solution for multiscreen ad insertion and addressability, meaning operators can target specific ads to any device – increasing their subscriber engagement and generating new revenues.

“Adaptive bitrate streaming is still evolving and new protocols, such as MPEG DASH, which promise to standardise the environment, are quickly emerging,” said Ramin Farassat, Vice President, Product Marketing and Business Development for RGB Networks. “As we will demonstrate at ANGA, adaptive streaming techniques, such as just-in-time packaging and file-to-file transcoding, open up new opportunities for the optimisation of video delivery methods for VOD and nDVR environments, resulting in significant cost savings for operators. In addition, adaptive streaming also presents new advertising opportunities for European operators, allowing them to send targeted ads beyond the television.”

At ANGA, RGB will showcase its Enhanced Video Intelligence Architecture (eVIA), the first standards-based product suite for multiscreen video delivery and monetisation. Anchored by RGB’s award-winning chassis-based Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG), the industry’s most advanced video processing platform, and its TransAct Packager. RGB will highlight how eVIA can facilitate operators taking the next step in the delivery of premium content to any device, and how the highly scalable solution simplifies the challenges of multiscreen deployments and offers a new revenue-generating opportunity through adaptive bitrate ad insertion for hyper-targeted advertising across all screens.

Executives from RGB Networks will be available on stand V18 throughout ANGA Cable, taking place June 12 – 14, 2012 in Cologne, Germany, to answer questions and provide demonstrations of the unique advantages RGB’s multiscreen IP video delivery and monetisation solution can offer.
