Intelsat-19 solar panel shaken loose

June 18, 2012

By Chris Forrester

Intelsat and satellite builder Space Systems/Loral have managed to deploy the ‘stuck’ solar panel on the Intelsat-19 craft. Launched on May 31st, the technicians managed to ‘wobble’ the satellite by making four special apogee manoeuvre rocket firings which create vibrations on the satellite, and which seem to have done the trick.

Tests are now taking place to measure the solar panel’s performance, power levels, structural integrity and other key elements are all working properly.
