France Telecom-Orange is claiming its involvement in the Euro 2012 football tournament successfully brought the event to more fans than ever before.

As the official telecommunications partner for UEFA Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, Orange’s network carried over four billion megabytes (3.7 petabytes) of data between Poland and Ukraine via 6,000km of dedicated network throughout the tournament, and ensured 100 per cent availability as part of UEFA’s solution to the official Euro 2012 broadcast partners, who distributed matches to over 200 countries and billions of fans around the world.

The Official Euro 2012 mobile application with Orange was downloaded by over 2.3 million fans in the 11 European countries where Orange is present, and became the number one sports app on iOS and Android in several countries with over 400,000 users keeping up with the action via the app during each of the Euro 2012 matches.

Orange says its involvement helped bring the tournament to life for many football fans, in line with its goal of creating digital experiences that connect its customers with their passions, and that it created “a powerful platform to engage with customers and football fans across Europe”.
