Sony 84” 4K 3D TV to launch in US this year

Sony has confirmed will be releasing its 84-inch 4K 3D TV later on this year. The television, which carries the XBR-84X900 codename, will be available in Sony Stores and other retail outlets in the US.

According to Sony Electronics TV Group Vice President Brian Siegel, the new 84-inch Sony TV will “redefine what consumers should expect from their television’s performance.” He added that Sony will “push the television experience” by continuing to migrate more TV programmes and movies to the 4K format.

The TV will run on the Sony 4K X-Reality PRO Picture Engine.

The 4K TV’s features include a 10 Unit Live Speaker system with virtual 5.1 surround sound support, S-Force Surround 3D and 3D glasses for a movie theatre-like viewing experience on the 84” screen. The 3D glasses, incorporate “light and comfortable passive design”, which should further make for pleasurable viewing on the giant-sized TV.

Other notable specs include Motionflow XR 960, Wi-Fi Direct, Skype and DNLA support, Dynamic Edge LED backlighting, Intelligent Connect streaming and support for the PlayStation 3.

The cost of the TV has yet to be revealed.
