US abandoning FTA viewing?

January 11, 2013

America continues to favour cable or satellite TV, and research agency Nielsen says viewers are increasingly abandoning free-to-air (FTA) signals. FTA viewing is now only viewed by nine per cent of the population, down from 16 per cent in 2003.

However this number is disputed by the influential National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) which states that its research (conducted by Knowledge Networks in 2012) showed that the number of over-the-air consumers was up, totalling 54 million viewers (18 per cent) and an increase from 46 million a year earlier.
