RGB Networks’ video processing technology selected to grow Multiplex 4’s regional presence for DVB-T service

January 29, 2013

RGB Networks, the leading provider of scalable multiscreen IP video delivery solutions, today announced that Multiplex 4 (MUX4), the fourth largest nationwide Czech TV transmission network operated by Digital Broadcasting Ltd., has selected and deployed RGB’s award-winning Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG) and Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) to provide a complete video processing solution for the regionalised delivery of its expanding DVB-T (terrestrial) services.

MUX4 is the only nationwide TV transmission network in the Czech Republic utilising the H.264/MPEG-4 compression format, enabling the delivery of high definition TV. MUX4 supports the multiplexing (muxing) of several channels in digital format to 13 independent regions, with seven channels each, enabling the delivery of separate broadcast services to particular regions, such as Prague and Central Bohemia. The network is undergoing a major expansion project, and currently reaches 86 per cent of the country’s population.

Selected for the solution’s versatility, cost efficiency and multifunctionality, RGB’s VMG and BNP together support MUX4’s overall DVB-T headend with the primary application of regionalising programming for various geographic areas – performing functions including muxing, programme substitution, graphical overlay insertion, DVB-CA encryption and transcoding – in order to ensure compliance with required industry standards and licensing terms.

“RGB’s high-capacity, carrier-class architecture perfectly facilitates the regional delivery of the multiple network frequencies we need in order to meet both compliance standards and customer demands,” said Radim Parizek, CEO at Digital Broadcasting Ltd. “By performing a host of versatile tasks simultaneously via an integrated platform, RGB’s technology not only meets our current business needs, but also adds value to our long-term business strategy. We are hoping to increase MUX4’s coverage to up to 98 per cent of the Czech population during 2013, and with this growth, we will also be looking to utilise RGB’s technology to support targeted ad insertion requirements to different regions.”

The service is now live and was deployed within two weeks after initial installation. The team at MUX4 worked closely with leading Czech system integrator CrossPoint Technologies to implement the solution.

“We received excellent support from both RGB Networks and its partner CrossPoint Technologies, who provided us with exceptional service throughout the entire process of deploying our DVB-T service to ensure that the solution was up and running in record time,” continued Radim Parizek.

“The ability to deliver localised programming efficiently and cost effectively across separate regions is essential to the advancement of any national provider of video services,” said Ramin Farassat, Vice President, Product Marketing and Business Development for RGB Networks. “We are delighted to help facilitate MUX4’s delivery of programmes to a myriad of geographic regions with our VMG and BNP processing solution, giving the network an avenue for long-term growth and enhancing their competitiveness in the market.”
