It seems that Latin American pay-TV growth is unstoppable. Hot on the heels of Mexico’s impressive numbers (up 22.8 per cent last year to 12.95 million subs) comes news from its Telecoms Agency that Brazil’s growth last year was an equally impressive 27.6 per cent, wrapping the year with 16.5 million subscribers.

January’s growth was 312,193 extra subs (up 1.93 per cent). Satellite DTH continues to expand its share, while MMDS loyalty is rapidly evaporating.

As at January 31st DTH leads the market with a 61.3 per cent share. Cable recorded a 37.9 share of the pay-TV market. DTH added 272,875 new subscribers between December and January (a 2.77 per cent growth), while cable added 48,371 new users (0.78 per cent increase). MMDS operators continue to lose subs, falling 9,038 subscribers in a month (6.36 per cent fall). As of January 31st, MMDS has just 133,075 subscribers in the whole country.
