March 22, 2013

Audio specialist Sennheiser has revealed some of the highlight objects from the ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition launching on March 23rd at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. This teaser video snapshots a few of the exhibits that will be on display until the 11th August.

Exhibition partner and sponsor, Sennheiser, will be bringing its audio expertise to the collection, offering an immersive 3DAudio experience which promises to take visitors on an unforgettable journey of sound and style..

A major figure for over four decades in the world of popular music, David Bowie is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of all time. Through his unique sound and style, Bowie has been the inspiration for many past and present singers, song-writers and musicians, including current artists using Sennheiser audio equipment for their performances.

Labrinth, Sennheiser’s Masters of Sound artist, who recently achieved a number one single with ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’ featuring Emeli Sande, said: “The clothes. The style. I love that guy. He’s a pioneer! He has inspired many of my sessions.”

Dan Gillespie Sells, lead singer of British pop rock band, The Feeling commented: “I often wish I were a star person like David Bowie. His influence on my song writing has been massive and never once has waned. As a child I listened to my dad’s Bowie records and found myself lost in his movie-like world of imagination. I still find myself in the studio (or just in everyday life) asking, ‘What would Bowie do?’”

“David Bowie is The Musician, The Songwriter, and Record Producer behind his own lyrics and music. He’s The Director, The Creator and Origin of his own visuals,” added Mark Sheehan, guitarist for The Script. “I see him in most modern day pop artists and rock bands from different corners of this earth. With the state of the current music industry we now know we will never see another David Bowie. So we are the new and we can only try carry forth his ethos.”

Pop sensation and X Factor finalist Olly Murs said: “David Bowie has been a big influence on me and British music. I grew up with my parents listening to him and he is someone whose career I admire and look up to.”

As an audio experience, sound quality is at the core of the ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition. Visitors are immersed in Bowie’s world of music, art, and style via Sennheiser’s guidePORT audio guide system and Aura 3D sound system which will seamlessly integrate sound material into the tour and automatically provide music and narrative when visitors approach the exhibits.

Phil Cummings, Project Manager, at Sennheiser UK commented: “Innovation and expertise are two of the attributes we associate ourselves with at Sennheiser – a heritage which is well matched with that of Bowie’s career. We are passionate about sharing great sound, and the calibre of artists using our products, both past and present, is truly inspirational. “As one of the biggest cultural events for 2013, the David Bowie Is exhibition will showcase why Bowie made British pop so memorable, making sound the most pivotal element of the show. We are delighted to bring our expertise and passion for great sound to the exhibition.”
