YouView: 60% of users view VoD

May 30, 2013

YouView has revealed it is on its way to reaching 400,000 homes across the UK, just 8 months after launch.

The subscription-free service, offering 7 day catch-up and on-demand TV, has also released on demand viewing statistics for the first time citing over 2.2 million VoD plays per week, with around 60 per cent of customers viewing VoD programmes every week. On average viewers watch seven programmes a week – more than three hours of content – an average length of 27 minutes.

Richard Halton, CEO YouView said, “We’ve had a great start and we’re delighted to have received such a positive response from consumers. We’re already the fastest growing TV service in the UK and now we can see that translating into viewing. Seamless access to content is at the heart of the YouView proposition and we are delighted to announce that Internet channels are set to launch this summer as well as the extension of our app strategy to the Android platform. YouView is taking catch-up TV into the mainstream.”

The addition of Internet Channels to YouView this summer will allow broadcast quality TV channels to be received via a broadband connection. This development will enable YouView to move from offering the traditional 70 free-to-air channels and open up the service to a theoretically limitless number of live channels.

YouView also confirmed that details about new content providers and an Android version of the YouView app, which will allow users to access a TV guide and use remote record functionality, will be shared in the next few weeks.

YouView is offered as part of broadband bundles from TalkTalk and BT. It is also available to buy from all major retailers and many independent electrical stores.
