Kathrein TechnoTrend and Zappware to provide next gen UI and interactive apps on new hybrid STB series

June 5, 2013

TechnoTrend (KTT), an international developer and supplier of Zappware, a provider of cutting-edge digital TV applications, and Kathrein innovative digital technology, have announced a new business co- operation: KTT will be integrating Zappware’s NexxTM application on their new HTML5-based, HbbTV hybrid STB series based on Broadcom technology and various encryption systems. Nexx is Zappware’s flagship product for set-top boxes and connected TVs and provides a next-generation user experience in the living room. The cooperation will be first demonstrated on KTT receivers in a joint showcase at the IBC show in September.

Designed by Zappware’s award-winning ZappDesign team, NexxTM is allowing viewers to easily get access to the content they need via ultra-short click-paths. It provides a consistent content-driven navigational pattern throughout the application and uses animation and acceleration to create a lively dialogue with the viewer. In addition it gives the ability to personalize the experience and share the TV experience using social networks.

Kathrein TechnoTrend’s open API middleware enables system providers to integrate their services according to customer needs and create unique business models for the operators. “This new integration project shows the innovative power of Kathrein TechnoTrend and proves our ability to make our applications accessible to a wide range of devices”, said Patrick Vos, CEO at Zappware and added: “The new strategic alliance with Kathrein TechnoTrend is allowing us to move into new markets based on a strong technology partnership.”

Volker Belz, CSO of Kathrein TechnoTrend explained: “Zappware’s solution integration on Kathrein TechnoTrend’s advanced receivers enhances our product portfolio and increases our customer’s flexibility in their rollout of interactive OTT content and applications. Based on an outstanding user experience the Nexx solution will help operators and platform providers to prevent churn and to generate further revenues.”
