June 6, 2013

tennisFrance Televisions is working with the French Tennis Federation at the Roland Garros tennis tournament in Paris to showcase 4K Ultra-HDTV.  Eutelsat is working with technology company ATEME and the 4EVER project members to distribute the signals.

France Televisions has set up its RG LAB at the tennis stadium where visitors can see the images captured live. France Television say that this is a world’s first multi-camera 4K shoot.  AMP-Visual TV is capturing the images while ATEME is compressing the signals.

Importantly, this technology demonstration is said to be the first ever where an end-to-end use is made of the new HEVC codec and simultaneously sees feeds made for TV, PC and tablet reception. The demo runs until June 9.
