July 8, 2013

UK retail group Argos, which has a significant presence both on the High Street and online, has signalled its intentions to maximise the potential of digital opportunities by appointing a Digital Director to its senior team.

Bertrand Bodson has been appointed to the newly created position of Digital Director, effective from July 1st. He reports to Managing Director John Walden and is a member of the Argos Executive Board. The role is central to bringing to life the strategic vision for Argos to be a digital retail leader, as announced to the UK financial community in October 2012.

Bodson joins from EMI Music, where he was Executive Vice President, Global Digital, responsible for deployment of digital platforms, driving strategy and insight from the centre and creating innovative new digital formats. Prior to that, he spent four years with Amazon in the United States and Europe, where he built its European DVD rental business (now LOVEFiLM). Bodson has also consulted with The Boston Consulting Group and was Co-Founder of Bragster.com, the largest social community for ‘bragging, boasting and daring’ (now owned by Guinness World Records).

Walden said Bodson would spearhead its efforts to make digital channels – online, mobile and tablet – the primary experiences for its customers, while making the most of its 30,000 colleagues and national store network.
