Malaysian OTT service KLfive has launched in beta prior to a full launch in November. The service claims to have over 1,500 hours of content from studios including CBS, NBC Universal, Fremantle Media Enterprises, ITV Studios and many others. The service is available via Connected TV, PCs, tablets, mobile phones and STBs.

“Unlike Pay Television that works with a pre-packaged menu of programming, KLfive delivers content on demand as an à la carte service,” explained Izham Abdullah, KLfive’s CEO.

Content on KLfive includes top-rated prime-time programmes, available as soon as they are aired in the United States, and current movies within a six-month window from the date of release.

“The media environment needs to undergo a dramatic shift to address the current lifestyle trends, accessibility of content via multiple platforms, family budget controls, and an alternate pay model,” said Izham. “Our game-change business model is a perfect fit for this generation’s content consumers.”

KLfive also offers a low-price monthly subscription starting at RM15 (€3.40) that entitles subscribers to a minimum combination of 10 titles from various genres.

KLfive anticipates attracting 100,000 subscribers in its first year, targeting consumers in the middle to high income group.“KLfive is designed to transform the traditional television ecosystem and create a fresh competitive environment for the Pay TV platforms. Users have absolute control and an option of payment methods,” said Izham.
