Africa agrees on digital TV plans

Forty-seven sub-Saharan African countries have agreed their digital TV co-ordination frequency schemes following analogue switch-off.

It means that broadcasters and transmission companies can now start detailed planning for the border regions in order to meet the ITU deadline of June 2015 for the UHF frequencies and 2020 for the VHF transmissions.

The decision also means that for many of the nations concerned they can start planning their cellular telephony auctions of those frequencies.
