US crime drama “Copper” exclusively on Amazon’s LOVEFiLM

September 9, 2013

LOVEFiLM, an Amazon company, has announced the launch of Cineflix’s highly rated, Emmy-nominated scripted series “Copper” exclusively on the LOVEFiLM Instant streaming service.

From this Friday (13th September) members of the film and TV streaming service in the UK can immerse themselves in the first season of the critically-acclaimed raw nineteenth century crime drama for the first time, on demand and all at once.

Starring Tom Weston-Jones (“Spooks”), Kyle Schmid (“Being Human”, “Smallville”), and Anastasia Griffith (“Once Upon a Time”, “Lipstick Jungle”), the show is set in 1860s New York City during the last gasps of the Civil War and follows tough but decent police detective Kevin Corcoran (Weston-Jones), a “copper” who returns from the war to discover that his daughter has been murdered and his wife is missing.

Against a backdrop of poverty, crime and depravity, Corcoran tries to piece together what happened to his family while solving high-profile cases for the City. His investigations take him from the notorious Five Points neighbourhood to elegant but corrupt Fifth Avenue high society, exploring bitter racial tension and social struggles on the way.

“Copper” is created by three-time Emmy® Award-winner Tom Fontana and Academy Award-nominee Will Rokos and amongst the executive producers are Academy Award-winner Barry Levinson, Fontana, Rokos and Cineflix Studios’ Christina Wayne.  “Copper” has already proven to be a huge success in the U.S. where it airs on BBC America, becoming the broadcaster’s highest-rated series premiere. It is the second show, after Norse epic “VIKINGS”, to make its debut in the UK on LOVEFiLM Instant, bypassing traditional broadcasters to bring the whole series to fans in one go.

Simon Morris, Chief Marketing Officer at LOVEFiLM, said: “Breaking records for a broadcaster like BBC America is a testament to the quality of this show and we’re thrilled to bring it to the UK. We’re always looking to bring great new TV content to British viewers, and following the success of “VIKINGS” it’s exciting to see the faith content creators have in our platform as a way to launch new shows in this country.”

Chris Bonney, CEO of Rights, Cineflix Media, said: “”Copper” has been a great success for Cineflix in North America and we’re sure it will be equally loved by British audiences. As we look to increase our broadcast partners and revenue from the growing trend for online viewing, we’re delighted to partner with LOVEFiLM, which is the perfect way for fans to dive into the gritty world of post Civil War New York.”

LOVEFiLM Instant is available on PC, Mac or via Nintendo Wii and Wii U, Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony Playstation3, Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire, Apple iPad and a growing number of Internet-connected TV sets and Blu-ray players, giving members immediate access to a huge range of the latest films and premium TV shows from as little as £5.99 a month.
