Rovi surpasses 1bn DivX devices, Japan/China deals

Rovi Corporation has achieved a significant industry milestone with 1 Billion DivX devices shipped worldwide. Representing multiple major consumer electronics brands and over 30,000 unique models, DivX supported devices include everything from digital TVs and set-top boxes to smartphones and tablets.

“This amazing achievement was only possible with the continued support of leading consumer electronics manufacturers, service providers, and a passionate audience of consumers. Together, we helped pioneer advanced multi-screen video entertainment,” said Bob Shallow, SVP, product sales & marketing at Rovi. “We are now focusing our broad range of new and existing DivX video technologies and long-standing device certification program on accelerating HEVC adoption, as exemplified by our demonstrations and announcements at IBC.”

Meanwhile, TongFang Global, a manufacturer of consumer electronics in China, has confirmed it will adopt DivX Plus Streaming into its digital TVs for the European and US market. Additioanlly, Kinema-Junposha has selected Rovi’s DivX Video Service to power Japan’s first DivX premium online video store. Kinema-Junposha, one of Japan’s most distinguished entertainment publishing firms, will use Rovi’s end-to-end video solution to provide high-quality video services on a wide range of connected devices.
