Elemental showcases pioneering advancements for multiscreen video at SCTE
October 10, 2013
Elemental Technologies, the supplier of video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, has announced its plans to showcase advances critical for the cable industry to efficiently distribute multiscreen video, including live HEVC 4K video processing and low bitrate MPEG-2 encoding, at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia, October 22 – 24.
4K Ultra HD video presents a challenge in terms of the bandwidth required to deliver a smooth and immersive viewing experience. Elemental’s award-winning HEVC/H.265 implementation allows for delivery of 4K content at greatly reduced bitrates. Elemental garnered two industry awards for its implementation and advancement of the new HEVC/H.265 standard at IBC last month.
Software-based video processing solutions from Elemental help pay TV operators effectively deliver high-quality linear and on-demand video to end users on any device. Elemental will demonstrate the capabilities of its complete product lineup in booth 735 at the Georgia World Conference Center. Activities and highlights include:
HEVC Video Compression – The rapid innovation and performance advantages of Elemental’s architecture will be on display with recent advances in HEVC video compression, including an end-to-end, 10-bit video processing pipeline and real-time 4K HEVC encoding. Demonstrations will include 4Kp60 10-bit Ultra HD HEVC processing using Elemental Server and real-time 4K HEVC encoding using Elemental Live.
Low Bitrate MPEG-2 Video Processing – Elemental offers a path to lower operating costs with traditional cable infrastructure through optimised MPEG-2 encoding. Pay TV operators can reduce traditional MPEG-2 bitrates by up to 30 per cent with video processing solutions from Elemental. Support for multiple codecs running simultaneously on a single platform provides a seamless migration path from existing video delivery standards to future compression technologies.
Video Processing in the Cloud – The flexibility of Elemental’s unified software approach will be showcased in both live and file-based workflows running on the Elemental Cloud platform. Support for hybrid on-premise and cloud encoding solutions allows customers to optimise large-scale video operations. Demonstrations will include cloud bursting scenarios, where peaks in video processing demand are absorbed by resources in the cloud.
Content Monetization – The maturity of Elemental’s partner ecosystem will be evident with support for an array of monetisation strategies. Elemental will demonstrate technologies that help customers protect and monetize content in a multiscreen ecosystem, such as forensic watermarking, encryption, CAS/DRM, ESAM, targeted ad insertion, ad removal, ad blanking and audio normalization.
Unified Workflow Management – The reliability and robustness of Elemental’s solution suite is anchored by its unified management system, Elemental Conductor. The system centralises management of all Elemental video processing deployments and will be shown controlling end-to-end workflows including encoding and packaging across ground and cloud-based resources.
“Video processing technology from Elemental makes HEVC full frame rate 4K a reality today,” said Aslam Khader, chief product officer for Elemental. “HEVC will dramatically reduce the bitrates required for terrestrial and over-the-top delivery of 4K content, giving pay TV operators a viable path to deliver immersive content to subscribers on any device.”
