upc cablecom continues to grow

The first nine months of the year 2013 have been solid for upc cablecom with strong growth both in terms of revenue and 42,200 additional subscribers to Internet broadband.
Switzerland’s largest provider of TV now has more than 2.5 million subscribers and will launch 500 Mbit/s Internet in Bern before the end of this year. The company launched its Horizon TV and multimedia platform in January 2013 and more than 110,000 subscriptions have already been sold. upc cablecom’s revenue also developed very positively, rising by CHF 12.8 million to CHF 309.3 million (+4.3 per cent) in comparison with the third quarter in the previous year.
The Horizon box, which was launched in January 2013, is enjoying increasing popularity. So far, more than 110,000 subscriptions – combining television, Internet and telephony – have been sold. upc cablecom further enhanced the Horizon experience through software updates, including a new remote control and web browser to try and cure early glitches.
Last October, additional unencrypted HD channels were added to the basic connection for digital television and with more than 1.4 million customers this remains the first choice for digital television in Switzerland by a clear margin.
upc cablecom’s customer numbers for TV increased by a further 5,200 connections in the third quarter.
Internet customer numbers also increased. In the first nine months of this year, the number of subscribers grew by 42,200 to a total of 647,400. The demand for fast Internet delivered over glass fibre optic cable remains high. The company will offer a new Internet speed of 500 Mbit/s throughout the entire region of Bern before the end of this year – 10 times faster than the speed currently offered over the telephone infrastructure. upc cablecom’s customer numbers for TV remain stable at a high level.
