Naspers enjoys pan-African growth

South African media conglomerate Naspers, which controls the Multchoice and DStv pay-TV operations, has reported healthy growth in all its key business segments. Overall pay-TV revenues grew 18 per cent to R17.1 billion ($1.68bn) and profit up 11 per cent to R4.47 billion.

Its subscriber base increased by a net 560,000 and now totals 7.259 million households in 48 countries in Africa. In South Africa MultiChoice increased its DStv subscriber base by 531,000 over the last year, totalling 4.699 million.

Naspers said that its PVR subscriber base increased 19 per cent year on year to 1 million. It further said that it saw strong growth on its DStv Compact offering.
