Freesat announces 2014 Free TV Awards Shortlist

March 29, 2014

Freesat, the subscription free TV service, has announced the channels and programmes that have been shortlisted for the Freesat Free TV Awards 2014.

Freesat offers over 200 TV, radio and interactive channels and with more entries than ever before, the 2014 Awards sees 50 shortlisted entries competing across ten categories, which includes one new category for 2014, Best TV Drama.

Now in its sixth year, the Freesat Free TV Awards showcase and celebrate all that’s great about Free TV in the UK. Returning categories from 2013 include Freesat Channel of the Year, Best Children’s TV Programme or Series and Best News Channel. Winners will be chosen by an expert panel of broadcasting industry executives and television commentators www.freesat.co.uk/awards/judges.

Chair of the judging panel Neil Midgley said: “This year has been the Freesats’ biggest and best ever field of entries, across categories ranging from Children’s TV to factual to sitcom. The result is a cracking set of shortlists, reflecting a truly vintage year for free-to-air television in the UK.

“Everyone is gripped by their favourite TV dramas – and this year the Freesat Free TV Awards will celebrate the very best with a new category, dedicated solely to British drama. BBC Two’s cult hits The Fall and Line of Duty square up against BBC One’s ratings champion Sherlock, with ITV’s Lucan and Channel 4’s Black Mirror completing a tightly competitive shortlist.”

British viewers also have their chance to decide the winners of the Best British TV Soap and Freesat Broadcast Personality of the Year Awards, with online audience voting now open at: www.freesat.co.uk/awards

All winners will be announced at the Freesat Awards ceremony, held in Central London on Tuesday 17th June, with a VIP audience of celebrities, media and broadcasters.
