Liberty bid for Ziggo facing lengthy review

April 28, 2014

Liberty Global’s bid for Dutch cable group Ziggo is likely to face a lengthy inspection from European Union antitrust regulators due to the complex issues involved, according to reports.

The extensive probe by the European Commission comes amid growing concerns among regulators and consumers over cable companies’ growing clout over broadband and their role as gatekeeper of Internet, television and communications services.

Liberty Global is seeking to expand its cable empire in Europe, its bid values Ziggo and its debt at around €10 billion.
