YouTube hit gets BBC3 series

May 12, 2014

bbc3People Just Do Nothing, a series about pirate radio station Kurupt FM and its crew, which initially debuted on BBC iPlayer as a pilot, will premiere in full on the service from May 13th ahead of its transmission on BBC Three in September.

The writers/performers/creators are a group of friends who had never done anything on television. They filmed themselves doing some five-minute comedy webisodes and put them on YouTube. After the BBC saw these, they were commissioned to write a full half-hour pilot as part of the very first batch of iPlayer pilots for BBC Three (called ‘Comedy Feeds’). This is the first comedy to have originated on BBC iPlayer that has subsequently been commissioned as a series on a BBC channel.

The pilot was the most shared programme on iPlayer during the month of July 2012.

Ash Atalla, Executive Producer for Roughtcut Television, speaking about the BBC iPlayer premiere says: “A brand-new series launched in a brand-new way. People Just Do Nothing is the first UK-made comedy series to play out in full on BBC iPlayer ahead of its transmission on BBC Three. The premiere will allow people to binge watch what is one of my favourite ever shows.”
