Spanish media group Mediapro, shareholder in La Sexta channel and owner of football TV rights to Real Madrid and Barcelona, has acquired the OTT service TotalChannel.

In its gamble on Premium TV, Mediapro has decided to rescue TotalChannel from bankruptcy to offer it as an added-value service to all its subscribers to the pay-DTT channel Gol TV

Launched one year ago, TotalChannel had filed for bankruptcy one month ago with 100,000 registered users, according to the company. The service offered 12 premium TV channels at €9.99 a month with over 80 per cent of its subscribers viewing through a Smart TV set or connected video games console.

With the acquisition, Mediapro breaks into a market to compete with other OTT services such as Canal Plus’ Yomvi, Atresmedia’s Nubeox, Wuaki TV or Filming among others.
