BBC Digital platform expert to be keynote speaker at the Brazil TV Forum

May 27, 2014

The 15th Brazil TV Forum, to be held on June 4th – 5th in São Paulo, will have Ralph Rivera, director of Future Media at the BBC as its keynote speaker: Rivera is one of the world’s leading experts on digital platforms and technological innovation for TV.

Ralph will showcase BBC’s innovations on several fronts such as interactivity, second screen, TV everywhere and VOD over the top. He has participated in several of the most advanced projects in platforms that distribute content to TV. Working at the BBC, which, as a public enterprise, owner of the content that it produces, independent of advertising money, is opening up a great space for experimentation and is in the vanguard at a moment when the traditional TV format is undergoing significant transformations.

Ralph is responsible for BBC’s interactive services: BBC online and BC Red Button. He is also responsible for the development of all of its digital products, such as BBC iPlayer, and for the partnerships that enable these products to be used on desktops, mobile phones, tablets and connected TVs. He coordinates the activities for research and development of technologies such as 3D. He presides over the BBC Future Media Board and over the Online Direction Group. Ralph is also involved in the development of YouView, a TV service on the Internet launched in 2012, a partnership between three TV operators and four broadcasters (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5). YouView will provide access to open channels through streaming, catch-up TV and video on demand.

The Brazil TV Forum is Latin America’s most important independent meeting for business in TV programming. It brings together  producers, distributors, channels and content platforms. Its objective is to be a space for business to be done, for professional recycling and networking.
