Al Jazeera launches Virgin Media TiVo app

June 11, 2014

Al Jazeera’s international news coverage and range of current affairs programmes is now available live and on demand for Virgin Media TV customers in the UK through a brand new TiVo app.

The app will enable Virgin Media TiVo customers to stream live Al Jazeera content while simultaneously receiving headlines and the latest tweets from Al Jazeera English.

Subscribers will be able to view Al Jazeera’s news and programmes on demand for the first time. Hundreds of hours of content can now be accessed at any time while offering the options of bookmarking videos and setting up a folder for favourite programmes.

The app can be accessed via the red button on both of Al Jazeera’s linear channels Al Jazeera English (channel 622) and Al Jazeera Arabic (channel 831) or through the Apps and Games menu on the TiVo box.

Both Al Jazeera channels are available in the M+ TV package but the app will be made accessible to over two million Virgin Media TiVo customers.

Virgin Media has provided support for the unique TiVo ‘Thumbs’ feature so customers can give the content they love the ‘Thumbs up’ which will automatically be saved to their favourites folder within the app.

Ehab Sahawneh, Executive Director of Marketing & Distribution at Al Jazeera, commented: “People want to consume news and documentaries in an interactive manner based on their terms, needs and requirements. Al Jazeera’s presence on multiscreen platforms is reshaping how people watch and interact with news and programmes. Our partnership with Virgin Media is part of the ongoing strategy of Al Jazeera’s multi-screen distribution programme which encompasses all our new digital platforms and content.
