Al Jazeera suffers HQ glitches

June 12, 2014

Al Jazeera’s English language channel has had to switch production from its Doha headquarters to London over the past few days. The broadcaster admits that it has suffered a “major technical problem… but most programmes, including documentaries and talk shows are unaffected”.

The problems started more than a week ago on June 2nd and normal production has not yet been resumed.

The region has suffered massive deliberate interference and satellite jamming over this same period although it is not known if satellite jamming is the reason behind Al Jazeera’s problems.

“We are working around the clock to fix the issue, and have actioned a recovery plan that has made sure we’ve stayed on air during this problem,” said an Al Jazeera statement. “”We are sorry about the situation and will advise when normal service has been resumed. In the meantime, our global storytelling has not changed, even if the schedule has”.
