Dutch VoD launch

June 13, 2014

Dutch broadcasting subscription portal NLziet has launched its subs package at €7.95 per month, giving access to a VoD catalogue of Dutch programmes going back one year.

The platform will start with 2750 series and programmes, translating into 29,002 episodes and 12,024 hours of material. There are apps available for iOS and Android, as well as a browser application.

Nlziet was started by NPO, RTL and SBS and has developed its apps and managed the metadata, programme information and search function. Customers search on one platform but streaming is actually provided by the three separate VoD platforms, due to legal and competitive reasons.

NLziet will be offered alongside the existing platforms of NPO Plus, RTL XL and Kijk of SBS. The subscription model will differ, with the new site giving an all-you-can-eat deal for 12 months back, which the other sites cannot. The proceeds will be divided among the three providers in proportion to the number of minutes watched.

Live TV is not available, but programming will be available very soon after first broadcast. Looking ahead will also be possible for certain programmes, such as for evening soap GTST.
