Arabsat books capacity on ABS

July 15, 2014

By Chris Forrester

The former Asia Broadcast Satellite, now preferring to be called ABS, has sold a portion of its transponder capacity on its new ABS- 3A craft which is due to be launched this coming winter. The buyer is Arabsat which will take a “multi-transponder lifetime Ku-band payload” on ABS at 3 degrees West.

The Ku-band payload will provide Arabsat with additional growth opportunities to serve customers over the Middle East and North Africa regions. The ABS-3A satellite will be one of the world’s first all-electric propulsion satellites (a Boeing 702SP platform satellite) with nearly 8 kilowatts of end-of-Life payload power and up to a total of 48 C and Ku-band transponders.
