Japanese group Rakuten has confirmed it will soon launch its VoD streaming platform Wuaki.TV in France.

The service will be beta tested throughout September, before being rolled out to the public in early October, specifically targeting the 20 million customers of PriceMinister, the French e-commerce website that it also owns.

France will be the third country, after Spain in 2010 and UK in 2013, where Rakuten has expanded its platform, claiming more than 1.5 million subscribers worldwide.

Recent and library films as well as TV series will be offered on a rental or pay per view basis. The French Wuaki.TV platform will also be the first one to integrate a new unique Idcode, soon allowing all Rakuten’s users worldwide to access to group’s full services.

Wuaki is set to expand to Germany and Italy before the end of this year, as Rakuten targets to reach 11 countries by end of 2015.
