In the run-up to its 30th anniversary celebrations, the BBC’s popular primetime soap EastEnders will be launching a series – Back to Ours – exclusively on BBC iPlayer. It will relive some of the most iconic moments from the show’s past 30 years in the company of the stars who appeared in them.
The series joins several cast members as they sit comfortably in their on-screen homes watching some of their own character’s most unforgettable scenes. They look back and share their own memories and behind the scenes stories.
Victoria Jaye, Head of TV Content for BBC iPlayer, said that commissioning Back to Ours builds on the success of BBC iPlayer exclusive EastEnders programmes that feed audiences’ excitement around the show’s biggest storylines and moments. “It doesn’t get much bigger than the 30th Anniversary, so we’re delighted to offer the millions of fans who enjoy EastEnders on BBC iPlayer each week, this exclusive treat,” she added.
EastEnders is one of the most watched programmes on BBC iPlayer since the service launched, with 654 million requests for episodes since 2009. Individual episodes often achieve over 1m requests. BBC iPlayer exclusive EastEnders programmes are also a significant draw for audiences e.g. ‘Jay Brown’s Police Interview’, around Lucy Beale’s death, attracted 375,000 requests in seven days.
The series will begin in early January 2015 in the run-up to the live anniversary week in February.
