Netflix denies 2015 Spain launch

December 22, 2014

From David Del Valle in Madrid

Netflix will not arrive in Spain next year. The Communications Director of the company, Jonathan Friedland, has reportedly denied that the company is going to break into Spain as despite reports.

In stories sourced to smart TV makers, Netflix had reportedly planned to enter Spain by the end of 2015, reversing its decision not to come to this market on the grounds of a high piracy level and the lack of a significant pay TV penetration.

With 32 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix is currently expanding into Europe where it is already present in the UK, the Netherlands, Ireland and four Nordic countries – Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Netflix is also launching in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg.
