Quickplay supports LTE Broadcast

March 2, 2015

Quickplay – the global expert in powering TV to any device – has confirmed plans to integrate LTE Broadcast capabilities into its managed video platform. The solution will allow global mobile operators who are using a comprehensive LTE Broadcast solution provided by Qualcomm Technologies, a subsidiary of Qualcomm, to deliver video with enhanced, differentiated viewing experiences over mobile devices and networks.

LTE Broadcast technology provides the potential to deliver new revenue sources and additional value for operators seeking to monetize their video services. Based on Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) standards, LTE Broadcast delivers the same stream of content to multiple users, eliminating network capacity constraints, delivering higher quality video and reduced latency compared to a unicast delivery. Current LTE Broadcast applications have been trialed in stadiums hosting live sporting events, among other activities, enabling large scale audiences to view high quality video in real time without taking up network capacity.  LTE Broadcast can also extend into push VOD delivery, targeted advertising, and subscription-based services, thereby offering additional opportunities for operators who seek to monetize content.

“We view LTE Broadcast as a natural progression of wireless delivery technology that will provide consumers with the ability to enjoy premium content anywhere and on any device”, said Wayne Purboo, CEO and Founder of Quickplay. “We are pleased to collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies to commercialise this technology and enable operators around the world the ability to provide innovative services with the goal of attaining seamless viewing experiences”.
