Samsung’s curved screens have helped it take the World No 1 position in terms of flat-panel 4K/Ultra HDTV displays, according to market research from Display Search. Sales y-o-y are up a massive 350 per cent on Q1 2014.

In the first three months of the year, Samsung supplied 28.8 per cent of all Ultra-HD panels sold globally, up 8.9 percentage points from 19.9 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Number 2 in the market was fellow-South Korean manufacturer LG, whose global market share came to 25.7 per cent, down from 27.9 per cent in Q4.

Breaking down the data into hard numbers and Display Search says Samsung supplied 38.7 per cent of all 55-inch UHD panels sold in the world. During Q1, Samsung produced 1.66 million UHD panels, ranging from 40 to 85 inches in size, up 24.7 per cent from the fourth quarter and nearly 350 per cent from 369,000 panels produced in the first quarter of 2014.

Display Search says that the world’s overall output of 4K panels totalled about 5.75 million units, down 14 per cent on the pre-Christmas quarter-year.
