Canis opens new division, renews Comux contract

June 1, 2015

Canis Television and Media, the broadcast management company, has announced a new division, Canis Rights, as well as an update of its agreement with local television multiplex operator, Comux, operator of the UK’s digital terrestrial television network for local television.

Canis Rights is a new division of Canis Television and Media, which will manage content rights for distribution across multi-platforms, with specific expertise for UK broadcast and local television. Canis Rights specialises in licensing and syndicating entertainment content with a focus on creating partnerships between broadcasters and content owners, and will be headed up by Alan Judd, CEO, Canis Television and Media.

Canis has operated Comux’s National Operations Centre in Birmingham (NOC) since 2013. The updated agreement sees Canis retained until the end of November 2016 to provide all technical and management functions for the operation of the NOC, which currently broadcasts 18 local TV channels to a transmission network of approximately 13 million Freeview homes in the UK.

Alan Judd, CEO, Canis Television and Media, says: “Already renowned for our expertise in channel development and management, the launch of Canis Rights means that we are expanding our offering to include distribution and licensing capabilities. In addition, the update of our contract with Comux to operate the NOC is testament to our digital team’s proven technical ability to help design and manage terrestrial broadcast infrastructure projects and our ongoing commitment to local television in the UK.”
