Sky-D turns big data into instant entertainment access

July 14, 2015

Big data integration software specialist Talend, has confirmed that Sky Deutschland, the leading pay-TV provider in Germany and Austria, is using the Talend Data Integration Platform to support Sky’s wide variety of entertainment services. Talend manages and streamlines the flow of critical information from back-end systems to front-end services that enable consumer access to entertainment on home and mobile devices.

Talend Data Integration provides more than 800 connectors, enabling Sky rapidly to connect its various data sources including big data databases and application systems. It also offers built-in Data Quality capabilities, to ensure the data being used is accurate, complete, consistent, and conforms to internal and external standards. With the help of Capgemini, Talend’s partner, the installation was complete in just one day. Sky team members attended a Talend training course that enabled them to easily manage the Talend platform once the rollout was complete.

The Talend project is part of Sky’s broader OTT initiative for reducing costs, boosting performance and supporting changes to the IT infrastructure. The connectors that come with the Talend solution hook directly to a wide variety of source systems and ensure that the access layer is always current, which ensures a realistic view of all Sky’s applications and services.

“We are very proud to have been selected following extensive testing conducted by Sky that benchmarked Talend against other integration providers on the market,” said Harald Weimer, RVP Sales DACH, Talend. “This is an excellent example of the essential role data integration plays across a broad range of industries and in a variety of use cases – in this instance, enabling Sky the real-time decisioning information necessary to deliver a high-quality customer experience at home or on-the-go.”
