DVR for Xbox One
August 5, 2015
Xbox One owners will soon be able to use their game console to record and play back live television from free, over-the-air broadcasts with the launch of a plug-in DVR.
Speaking at the Gamescom event in Germany, Xbox director of program management Mike Ybarra said the service won’t require a subscription and will be available in selected countries 2016.
The DVR will let users record live linear TV, schedule recordings from the Xbox OneGuide and stream recorded TV shows to other devices – either via the Xbox app on Windows 10, or through Xbox SmartGlass for iOS and Android. Users can also download shows to Windows 10 phones, PCs or tablets so that they can watch them when offline.
