Just 10% of European broadband homes familiar with smart products

November 3, 2015

Parks Associates research shows low consumer familiarity with smart home technologies in key European markets, while one-third of broadband households have strong concerns about the security of smart home products. The firm reports familiarity highest in France, where 12 per cent of broadband households are very familiar with smart home products and services, compared to less than 10 per cent in the UK, Spain, and Germany. Between one-fourth and one-third of broadband households in these European markets have security concerns about smart home products.

“Like the US, the European connected home market is on its way to steady growth,” said Stuart Sikes, President, Parks Associates. “However, while the US has an established foundation of security service to build on, energy providers, insurance companies, telcos, and retailers throughout Europe will have to share the load of driving consumer interest and creating new business models that lower barriers to adoption of new products and services.”
