SES ties Viasat into a long-term extension

Major DTH broadcasters rarely switch satellite operators. But it is always good for a satellite operator to have a major pan-regional broadcaster such as Viasat locked into a multi-year contract.

That’s the essence of a news release from satellite operator SES which says it has “extended” its partnership with Viasat and the broadcaster’s owners Modern Times Group to continue carrying its 230 channels over the Nordic and Baltic regions from 5 deg East (on Astra 4A and SES-5).

“Viasat has been a long-standing partner since the mid of 1990s. We are very pleased that Viasat relies on SES for its continuing growth in the future,” said Håkan Sjödin, VP/Sales Nordic, Baltic and Eastern Europe at SES. “This contract extension demonstrates that satellite plays an important role for TV distribution, and how it will remain key for the video business from a long-term perspective.”
